New Days

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 22, 2008, 4:48 AM
Well, thanks to all of you for your continuing support. I am shocked by the number of visits, faves, and comments I've had over the past week, and weekend in particular.

Most of the thanks must go to my models. It can't be easy putting up with a rusty photographer. BOY am I rusty!!!

I have had two shoots, and am in the process of booking another three, and at least two follow-ups.

This time I'm taking it a bit easier, hehhehe, yes I am. I'm NOT going to book two models a week, I'm not going to then squeeze in someones kids photos, and the odd press job, and someone's sister/girlfriend/mate for a shoot, and, and, and, and, and.....

While I still have my 9-5 I'll be aiming for 1 shoot a week, its all about balance I recon.

Still waiting for the local authorities to get back to me about the studio space.....not exactly holding my breath there.

Again, many thanks, I've had over 150,000 views, and that means YOU lot out there keep visiting. I must be doing something right.

NONE of my work on here can be considered stock, nor can it be considered to be a source for your work. I post on here to showcase MYwork, you lot can find your own. All work is protected by my copyright.

Devious Journal Entry

Illness is back with a vengeance.

Time to step back, yet again, and try not to make any major decisions while I'm ill...

So, looking into several things.

Obviously not shooting just now, and for once, I don't want to either.

Decisions to be made are:-

1. Sell the bloody lot. delete all the websites, and find something else to occupy my self.
2. Get my arse back into the studio and shoot some naked people.
3. Make my mind up on whether to take the local enterprise company up on the studio they have offered.
4. Take photo's of something else.
5. Take up golf.

Been thinking about quitting totally, again, seems to happen a lot.
Been offered studio space, dunno if I want to take it that seriously.
Been asked to give a talk at 2 Camera Clubs.
Can't decide between buying more lights, or selling what I have.

I've cleaned up my two main websites

Johnvphoto [link]

and

johnvohotoart [link]

First one is where you'll find my portraits, the second, my nudes.

I have a third, [link] this is where I'll be selling my prints.

There's another problem, I've been on here for bloody ages,( over 4 years), and seem to have managed to sell one, 1, UNO, bloody prints, so, why do I bother???? I REALLY DON'T KNOW!

Also, my book is for sale on Lulu, total sales so far 0, Nil, Nowt, fuck all!

SO, maybe it's only ME who likes my work, oh except for the person who bought a copy of Cry Freedom, to you I offer my deepest thanks :)
To the 7 people who requested I make prints available, then didn't follow up, well, you can guess what I think.

So, there we are, should I continue, should I not. if I do, will anyone care/buy my work....?

Things to do when you're off sick...

Well, I've finally gone and done it...

A few years ago I had the idea to publish a book along with a few members of another website,(and are members of this one too I must add). It kinda fell over after a short time, nothing ever came of it.

Well, I had that itch for a long time and finally I've created my own book.

It really isn't as easy as you'd think, but was easier than I thought??????

Putting your images into print is very frustrating. What do you call the book, what images do you include, colour or mono, type of book, binding, what, oh bugger, there are tons of whats to consider.

I have today recieved the,( maybe) final proof of my work. The printing process isn't kind to a lot of your images, I have to say. Takes several edits to get something like what you are used to seeing on the screen, or printed on photo paper.

I'm putting this aside as a learning process. The book is on Lulu.com and will be, in the next month or two, available on Amazon etc, as I've gone and bought the ISBN number package. BTW, did you know that book prices are governed by the retailers mark-up, usually 50% FFS!!!!!!

Anyway, the too expensive version will be available eventually, the much more sensible version is available here....
